ACM Student Chapter - Second Anniversary Celebrations The Campus: Amritapuri Campus hosts four Schools: Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita School of Arts & Science, Amrita School of Biotechnology and Amrita School of Ayurveda. The campus is located adjacent to the international headquarters of Mata Amritanandamayi Math and is separated from it by the backwaters linking Kollam and Alapuzha.The campus is spread across 80 acres of land in one of the most beautiful and picturesque locales of Kerala coastal line. A panoramic view from the campus greets a person with an endless stretch of give one the joy of endless coconut palm-groves miles together. The campus blends into the natural settings of the environment which is an endless stretch of coconut palm groves that typically greets a visitor to this part of the country. Arabian Sea that borders Kerala on the west is only a few hundred meters from the campus. About ACM: ACM is an educational and scientific society uniting the world’s computing educators, researchers and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources and address the field’s challenges. ACM strengthens the profession’s collective voice through strong leadership, promotion of the highest standards, and recognition of technical excellence. ACM supports the professional growth of its members by providing opportunities for life-long learning, career development, and professional networking. ACM strives to raise awareness of the innovations achieved by computing professionals that enrich our lives and advance our society.ACM provides opportunities to challenge established assumptions, present new concepts, defend complex ideas, and debate competing theories. ACM works to communicate the fundamental role that computing plays in shaping all scientific pursuits, as well as our future. ACM Student Chapter @ Amritapuri Campus:: By grace of AMMA, our Chancellor, guiding light and the source of inspiration, ACM Student Chapter at Amritapuri Campus was inaugurated by Dr. Prasad Ram, Google R & D (India) on March 1 st 2007. It was initially started as AMRITA SIGAC Special Interest Group in Advanced Computing. This chapter will serve as a chapter to all the students in all the schools at our Campus who pursue their degree in computing. Together with the launching of this AMRITA-ACM Student Chapter, we also initiate a Student Research Forum and a Student Research Project Group. The Student Research forum will serve as a platform to educate students on Paper Presentation and Research, thus bringing up a new research culture at Amrita. The Student Research Forum will serve the students closely in association with Microsoft. Currently there are 7 undergoing projects initiated by the students of Schools of Engineering. The Student Research Project Group is aimed at fostering a new generation of computer professionals at Amrita. Currently, chapter has a strong teams of members that includes students from B.Sc. Computer Science & M.Sc. Computer Science. Members conduct training programmes, workshops, competitions, talks etc for the members and the student community. With the initiatives of the members, the university hosted world's largest international collegiate programming contest - ACM ICPC in both 2007 & 2008. |
